WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

Dr. M.RAJA and V.SHRUTHI

India has traditionally been a patriarchal society with low participation of women in the economy. But the fact remains that women represent nearly 50 percent of the total population, and it is crucial to encourage women’s role in the economy at every level. At present women’s entrepreneurial role is limited in the large scale industries and technology based businesses. But even in small scale industries, the women’s participation is very low. The development of women entrepreneurship is very low in rural areas also. Women have become aware of their existence their rights and their work situation. The progress is more visible among upper class families in urban areas.  Entrepreneurship amongst women has been a recent concern. This paper focuses on “women entrepreneurship”. The paper talks about the status of women entrepreneurs and the issues, problems and challenges faced by them when they ventured out to carve their own niche in the competitive world of business environment.
