Abstract :
The field of software engineering is affected by infrequent, incomplete and inconsistent measurements. Software metrics plays an important role in measuring attributes that are critical to the success of a software project. Software quality and testing is an integral part of software development, providing opportunities for measurement of process attributes. Software quality metrics are a subset of software metrics that focus on the quality aspects of the product, process, and project. In general, software metrics are more closely associated with process and product metrics than with project metrics. The measurement of software quality and testing process attributes enables the management to have better insight in to the software process. . In general, software quality metrics are more closely associated with process and product metrics than with project metrics. Software metrics provide a quantitative basis for planning and predicting software development processes. This paper focuses on different views on software quality and testing metrics and examines why software metrics are needed and also reviews their contribution to software quality and testing. Results can be improved further as we acquire additional experience with variety of software metrics.
