QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS AND IT’S ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITIES OF CISSUS QUADRANGULARIS

Mr.S.Ramarajan and Dr.P.P.Poornima

Cissus quadrangularis is a well-known medicinal plant with a long history of traditional use for various therapeutic purposes. The phytochemical analysis involved extraction of various plant parts, including leaves, stems, and roots, using solvent extraction methods. The qualitative analysis was performed to identify the presence of major classes of phytochemicals, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds, saponins, and terpenoids, through standard chemical tests and color reactions. Subsequently, the quantitative estimation of specific phytochemical constituents, such as total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and total antioxidant capacity, was determined using spectrophotometric techniques. In the antioxidant activity assays, Cissus quadrangularis extracts exhibited strong free radical scavenging abilities against DPPH and ABTS radicals, as well as potent reducing power in the FRAP assay. These findings suggest the presence of potent antioxidant compounds in the plant extracts, which may contribute to their free radical neutralization properties.
