PRODUCTION OF INDOL ACETIC ACID (IAA0 BY PHOSPHATE-SOLUBILIZING BACTERIA –Bacillus megatrium

G.Punitha and Dr. K.Revathi

Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) play a crucial role in enhancing plant growth and promoting sustainable agriculture by solubilizing insoluble phosphates in the soil. Additionally, some PSB possess the ability to synthesize plant growth-promoting hormones, such as indole acetic acid (IAA), which further contributes to plant growth and development. This study focused on the production of IAA by a potent phosphate-solubilising bacterium, Bacillus megaterium. The production of IAA was quantified and optimized under various culture conditions, and the potential of the bacterium to enhance plant growth was evaluated in vitro and in greenhouse experiments. The results demonstrate the significant potential of Bacillus megaterium as a dual-function bio fertilizer for improving soil fertility and plant growth.
