OPTIMIZATION OF FARMER-FRIENDLY METHOD FOR MASS MULTIPLICATION OF PSEUDOMONAS FLUORESCENS

S.Ajithadevi & R.Selvabharathi,

Pseudomonas fluorescens is a beneficial bacterium with diverse applications in agriculture due to its biocontrol properties against various plant pathogens and plant growth-promoting abilities. The mass production of Pseudomonas fluorescens is crucial for its successful implementation in sustainable agriculture practices. This study aimed to optimize a farmer-friendly and cost-effective method for the large-scale multiplication of Pseudomonas fluorescens. The research involved a series of experiments to evaluate the effect of different growth media, carbon and nitrogen sources, pH levels, temperature, and agitation methods on the growth and multiplication of Pseudomonas fluorescens. Various combinations of these factors were tested to identify the most favorable conditions for enhancing bacterial growth and biomass production. The results indicated that a nutrient-rich broth medium supplemented with easily available carbon and nitrogen sources significantly enhanced the growth of Pseudomonas fluorescens. Additionally, a slightly acidic pH, moderate temperature, and intermittent agitation were found to be conducive for maximizing bacterial growth and biomass yield. Furthermore, the scalability of the optimized method was tested by culturing Pseudomonas fluorescens in larger fermenters. The method proved to be reproducible and practical for mass multiplication, with minimal requirements for specialized equipment and resources. Moreover, the cost-effectiveness of the optimized method makes it accessible to resource-limited farmers. This research offers an easily implementable approach for farmers to mass multiply Pseudomonas fluorescens in their own settings. The successful adoption of this method can potentially lead to reduced reliance on chemical pesticides, improved crop yield, and enhanced soil health. Furthermore, the integration of Pseudomonas fluorescens into agricultural practices can contribute to sustainable farming and environmentally friendly crop protection strategies.
