LOCATION BASED PACKET SCHEDULING FOR UNDERWATER ACOUSTIC SENSOR NETWORK

N.Savitha, Dr.S.Balu

Medium access control (MAC) determines how sensor nodes share the channel for packet exchanging. In underwater acoustic sensor networks (UASNs), the long propagation delay of underwater communications makes it challenging to design an efficient MAC protocol for scheduling localization packets. This article proposes a MAC protocol that takes advantage of the long propagation delay to minimize the duration of the localization task. The protocol is based on the concept of collision-free packet transmission, and it is modeled as a mixed integer linear program (MILP) in both single-channel and multi-channel scenarios. The proposed protocol is shown to be effective in minimizing the localization time, and it is also shown to be robust to variations in the network parameters.
