ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF PLANT GROWTH PROMOTING RHIZOBACTERIA FROM PLANT ROOT AND RHIZOSPHERE SOIL
Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) play a vital role in enhancing plant growth and productivity by facilitating nutrient uptake, protecting plants from pathogens, and promoting hormone synthesis. The present study aimed to isolate and identify PGPR strains from the roots and rhizosphere soil of various plant species to explore their potential as biofertilizers and biocontrol agents.
Roots and rhizosphere soil samples were collected from different plant species, including agricultural crops and native plants, from diverse geographical locations. The samples were processed using selective media to isolate rhizobacterial strains with the ability to promote plant growth. Various morphological, biochemical, and physiological tests were performed to assess their characteristics and potential beneficial attributes.
Upon isolation, a diverse array of PGPR strains was obtained, belonging to different bacterial genera such as Azospirillum, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and Rhizobium, among others. These strains were subjected to further analysis to evaluate their growth-promoting abilities, including nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, and production of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), a key plant growth hormone. Overall, the isolation and identification of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria from plant roots and rhizosphere soil have provided valuable insights into their potential application in sustainable agriculture. The diverse collection of beneficial rhizobacteria can serve as a valuable resource for developing biofertilizers and biocontrol agents, ultimately contributing to increased crop productivity and reduced reliance on chemical inputs in agriculture. However, further field trials and validation studies are warranted to fully exploit the potential of these PGPR strains under various environmental conditions.
