FABRICATION OF TRIPLE MINERAL SUBSTITUTED HYDROXYAPATITE (SR/CE/GD-HA) NANO COMPOSITE FOR ORTHOPAEDIC APPLICATIONS

Dr.S.Brillians Revin

Synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA, Ca10 (PO4)6(OH) 2) is a well-known bio composite used in orthopaedic and biomedical applications due to its excellent biocompatibility and bone-bonding ability. Substitution of trace elements, such as Mg, Zn, Sr, Ce, Sm, Gd ions into the structure of calcium phosphates is the subject of widespread investigation. Aim of the present work deals with the synthesis of (Sr/Ce/Gd-HA) co-substituted Hydroxyapatite nanomaterials by chemical precipitation method. Substitution of (Sr/Ce/Gd-HA) this nano composite enhances their biocompatibility, bioactivity and mechanical properties of HA. The as-synthesized biocomposite was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and cell viability studies respectively. In addition, the antibacterial activity of as-synthesised HA and (Sr/Ce/Gd-HA) was determined using Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. This novel biocompatible and antibacterial biomaterial can play potential role in orthopaedic applications.
