ECTOPIC EXPRESSION OF A BANANA CCCH-ZINC FINGER PROTEIN ENHANCES SALT TOLERANCE IN ARABIDOPSIS
The salinization of soil poses a serious obstacle to the global production of bananas. Plant salt tolerance processes can be clarified and stress-tolerant cultivars can be created by studying prospective salt stress response genes. In this study, the CaMV35S promoter was used to introduce the Musa acuminata Zinc finger15 (MaZFP15) gene into Arabidopsis. This gene is a member of the banana-derived CCCH zinc finger transcription factor family. In comparison to control lines (with empty vectors) and wild type plants, the transgenic lines expressing MaZFP15 displayed increased root branching under salt stress with higher chlorophyll pigment content, lower water loss rates and electrolytic leakage with greater relative water content, and increased anti-oxidant enzyme activity (SOD, CAT, POD, APX, and GR). Malondialdehyde analysis, the byproduct of lipid peroxidation, revealed that the transgenic mice suffered from less cell membrane damage.
