C.CHITRA

The Bodice of the gowns is mostly decorated with different neck lines. The neck line is quite high on the French style gowns early in the century. The neckline on the Italian influenced gowns is lower. The gowns could have front closures or back closures they have internal lacing or possibly hooks and eyes   The Sleeves of French style gowns early in the centaury are "bombard sleeves"-voluminous loose sleeves very wide at the wrist and turned back at the cuff. They are often trimmed with rich fabric.   The Skirts are very full with most of the fullness gathered at the back. Some of them are split in front, revealing an under skirt. The skirts are soft and flowing, there is no farthingale or any apparent support under garment women.   From the criteria presented above are collected from historical books and in the basis of it the new 25 designs of French costumes were designed and evaluated from various women's college students from Salem. The 4 designs were selected and constructed according to the instructions. The constructed garments were evaluated for its fitting, appearance and suitability.
