CHANGING SCENARIO OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

Dr.S.Krishna Priya

In today’s highly volatile and competitive business environment, technology, trends and human force are in a state of constant flux. It is therefore important that HR initiatives are ever evolving and apt for the challenges that lay ahead. HRD is considered by management professionals, as sub discipline of HRM, but many researchers have, broadened the concept of HRD by looking it from socioeconomic angle and giving it other dimension such as physical, intellectual, psychological, social, political, moral and spiritual development.  HR departments are evolving in our country. From an administrative perspective, the focus is now on a strategic outlook where talent HR professionals look at improving the work environment and plan out human resource needs. Though it is a reflection of what is happening in the western context, the Indian work force and industrial climate is changing. With liberalization there is an increasing pressure on organizations in India to change from indigenous, costly, suboptimal levels of technology to performance based, competitive and higher technology provision. HRD trends identified in this article present opportunity for companies to align organisational learning to the new realities in the broader strategic learning context.
