BIO-BASED ORAL GEL DEVELOPMENT.
Oral health plays a crucial role in maintaining overall well-being, and one of the significant challenges is combating oral pathogens that cause various dental diseases. Conventional oral care products often contain synthetic chemicals and antimicrobial agents, leading to concerns about potential side effects and environmental impact. Therefore, the need for eco-friendly and biologically compatible oral care solutions has led to the development of a bio-based oral gel.
This research aims to design and formulate a novel bio-based oral gel using natural and sustainable ingredients with potent antimicrobial properties. The gel's composition is carefully selected based on the documented antimicrobial activities of various botanical extracts and plant-derived compounds, which have demonstrated efficacy against oral pathogens in previous studies.
The research begins with the identification and extraction of bioactive compounds from plant sources through various extraction techniques, including solvent extraction, steam distillation, and supercritical fluid extraction. These extracts are then characterized to determine their chemical composition and evaluate their potential as oral care agents.
Next, different formulations of the oral gel are prepared, incorporating various concentrations of the bioactive compounds, and their physicochemical properties are assessed. The gel's consistency, pH, and stability are optimized to ensure a pleasant user experience and long-term efficacy.
In vitro studies are conducted to evaluate the bio-based oral gel's antimicrobial activity against common oral pathogens, such as Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Candida albicans. Additionally, cytotoxicity tests are performed on human oral cells to ensure the gel's safety for oral application.
The bio-based oral gel's efficacy is further assessed through clinical trials involving volunteers with varying degrees of oral health conditions. The participants use the oral gel as part of their daily oral care routine, and the reduction in oral pathogen counts, as well as improvements in oral health parameters, are monitored over a specific period.
Finally, the environmental impact of the bio-based oral gel is evaluated by comparing its carbon footprint with conventional oral care products. The sustainability and biodegradability of the gel's ingredients are analyzed to determine its ecological benefits.
The development of a bio-based oral gel represents a promising advancement in the field of oral care, offering an eco-friendly alternative to combat oral pathogens without compromising on efficacy or safety. This research contributes to the growing demand for sustainable and bio-based solutions in the healthcare industry, with potential applications beyond oral health.
