GUANIDINIUM PROPIONATE, A HYDROGEN-BONDED ORGANIC SINGLE CRYSTAL WITH LINEAR AND NONLINEAR OPTICAL CHARACTERISTICS, WAS SYNTHESIZED, ITS STRUCTURAL DETAILS WERE REVEALED, AND IT WAS USED IN OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICES

By using a slow evaporation technique, a novel nonlinear optical single crystal of guanidinium propionate (GP) was produced from an aqueous solution. The Pbca space group and orthorhombic structure were both confirmed by single crystal XRD. The three-dimensional hydrogen bonding network between the cation and anion Nsingle bond HO hydrogen bonds that stabilize the crystal packing are what give rise to the three ring motifs, R12(4), R21(6), and R21(6). Thermal, mechanical, dielectric, and optical tests were used to characterize the crystals that had developed. The nonlinear absorption coefficient, nonlinear refractive index, and susceptibility of the third order were estimated using the Z-scan method.
