Abstract :
The project is made to study the comparison of natural and synthetic dyes. The main objective of the study is to know the qualities of both the dyes by subjecting it into various tests like Fabric Weight, Abrasion Resistance, Thickness of Fabric, Color Fastness to Washing and Pressing. The sources of natural dyes were taken are Tea waste and Marigold. Dyeing with tea waste is accounts in the category of wealth out of waste. Marigold has taken as dye source in order to exploit its qualities as natural colorant to dye the fabric. The sources for synthetic dye are taken as Reactive pink and Reactive orange dyes. The Mordants used for natural dyes are Alum, Pomegranate, Lemon, Sour butter Milk and Myrobalan. From the results of the dyed fabrics it was evident that the natural dyes are eco-friendly but limited sources only available. Synthetic dyes are permanent and have great color fastness but gives toxic and allergic effect.
