COMPARISON STUDY OF VISCOSE AND MODAL FABRIC WITH FLAME RETARDANT FINISH

B.LAVANYA

Recent development in finishes has provided numerous applications in many industrial segments in clothing area. There is an enormous potential for value addition to fabrics with huge opportunities to satisfy the consumers with the latest finishes and keeping pace with 100% viscose and modal woven fabrics are subjected to flame retardant finishes. The finished fabric are experimented for the performances properties by laboratory test and evaluated under the visual inspection.   Modal and viscose are regenerated fibers and in comparison we are to show that modal has better qualities than viscose. Modal is used alone or with other fibers (often cotton or spandex) in household items such as pajamas, towels, bathrobes, and underwear and bed sheets.. It is cool to the touch and very absorbent. It takes and holds dye easily. Modal is less resistant to shrinkage than cotton and tends to pill less as a result of friction on the surface.   Viscose and modal fabric is end used as a garment here in the comparison study, after giving flame retardant finish to the fabrics.   After viscose and modal fabrics were pretreated, dyed and flame retardant finish given, some of their properties, such as dimensional stability, color fastness to rubbing, color fastness to washing, color fastness to perspiration, tearing strength, mass unit area were measured with some modern testing equipment according to the standard testing methods.   The present study will show the comparison study of viscose and modal and end uses of viscose and modal fabrics.
