GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN JOB CHALLENGE

Mrs.P.KALAIRANI, M.BALAJI

Gender inequality is a type of sex discrimination which results in a particular individual being treated disadvantageously because of their gender. This is something which has plagued women in the workplace for a long time now, and still persists despite all the leaps and bounds women’s rights movements have made. It must also be noted that while gender inequality is something that mainly women have to deal with, there are some men who have had to deal with this issue too.  Today’s day and age, it seems anachronistic for men to consistently earn more than women across a variety of different professions. The mere fact that this trend still exists is indicative of the fact that there are still miles to go before gender inequality is completely eliminated from today’s workplace. Promotions into higher organizational levels are important events in people’s work lives, and ‘going up in the world’ is more and more considered to be an absolute value. Individuals differ in their career attainments however, which renders career success a popular and important subject in management research and literature. One of the most striking examples of such differences is the disparity in career success between men and women, with women experiencing much less progression than men .Although many factors may influence individuals’ career success, the literature suggests that the extent to which individuals have challenging job experiences is one of the most important determinants of career development.
