PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY OF FICUS CARICA LEAVES EXTRACT

T.Bhuvana

Ficus carica leaves are traditionally used to cure a number of illnesses, including gingivitis, vitiligo, diabetes, coughs, and asthma. The current study set out to analyze the various Ficus carica leaf extracts using thin layer chromatography (TLC) and preliminary phytochemical methods. The common phytochemical assays were used to conduct the phytochemical analysis. Using the solvent system ethanol, TLC analysis of the ethanol and chloroform extract of the leaves was performed. ethanol:hexane (3:7) and chloroform (9:1), respectively. The preliminary phytochemical screening results showed the presence of a number of chemical substances, including alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, carbohydrates, tannins, and phenols, as well as fixed oil and fats. In TLC plates of ethanol and chloroform extracts, respectively, the three Rf value (0.59, 0.78, and 0.94) and six Rf value (0.05, 0.21, 0.34, 0.51, 0.65, and 0.87) were discovered. In the current situation of a lack of regulatory laws to govern the quality of herbal pharmaceuticals, these research offered referential information in respect to its identification criteria assumed significantly in the manner of acceptability of herbal drugs.
