FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERIZATION OF OSRAC6 INVOLVED IN POLLEN GERMINATION IN RICE

M. Indhumathi

In angiosperms, pollen germination and pollen tube growth must occur normally for reproduction to be successful. The processes are controlled by cellular activity and transcriptional regulation, both of which rely heavily on signalling proteins. RACs, or Ras homolog (Rho)-type GTPases, are a class of Rho small GTP-binding proteins that originated in plants. However, it is still unclear how the genes in the rice Rac family (OsRac) function in pollen germination. The OsRac6 gene, which is only expressed during the pollen formation stage, was discovered through this inquiry. OsRac6's functional characterisation utilising gene-edited mutants reveals male sterility as a result of pollen germination disruption. Next, we used RNA-seq to identify potential genes that were influenced by the OsRac6 genes during pollen formation.
