SPECTRAL INVESTIGATION OF Ce/PMMA SUBSTITUTED HYDROXYAPATITE FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Ms.S.VINOTHINI, Mrs.R.SANGEETHA

The aim of this study was to explore the effect of cerium ions on the formation and structure of hydroxyapatite (HAP). The present work deals with the synthesis of cerium substituted HA nanoparticles (Ca/Ce–HA) by microwave irradiation method. The properties of pure HA can be tailored to the preferred extent by simultaneous substitution of Ce3+. Their morphology, composition and crystal structure were characterized by SEM,  XRD and FTIR. The anti-bacterial studies have confirmed that Ce is well substituted in the HAP structure by exhibiting better activity against gram negative bacteria. (Ce-HAP) powders were successfully achieved by ultrasonic irradiation and obtained better morphology. Thus, the as-synthesized polymer bioceramic composite can be a promising candidate for various biomedical applications, in particular, orthopedics.
