RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION AND PERCEIVED STRESS

The present study aims to find the Relationship between social media addiction and perceived stress among college students. Perceived stress is the feelings or thoughts that an individual has about how much stress they are under at a given point in time or over a given time period. Social media addiction is considered as a kind of internet addiction. The tools used for the study consists of “Perceived stress scale” which was developed by Cohen et al. (1983). The scale consists of 10 items. The scores of the PSS with 10 items that used vary between 0 and 40. The participants were evaluated on each item on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from “Never (0)” to “Very often (4)” . “Social media addiction scale” developed by Cengiz Sahin (2018), the scale which consists of 29 items. This is a 5-point like type scale which consists of 29 items. The reliability of social media addiction scale is (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient = 0.93) and for perceived stress scale is (Alpha coefficient = 0.86). 150 samples are collected from college students. The data obtained were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, correlation by SPSS 20. Key words: Perceived stress, social media addiction
