SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOACTIVITIES OF POLYMER COMPOSITE FOR ORTHOPEDIC APPLICATION

Antimicrobial materials based on hydroxyapatite are potentially smart in a wide variety of orthopedic applications. Substitution of some minerals like Mg, Sr, Mn, Zn and Cu ions into the structure of hydroxyapatite is the focus of widespread investigation. In this paper, we have reported the synthesis of Zn/HA in addition to that PMMA (polymethylene methacrylate) co-substituted nano hydroxyapatite by precipitation method, which improves biocompatibility, bioactivity, cytotoxicity and mechanical properties. The as-prepared polymer composite material was analyzed by FTIR, XRD, SEM EDAX, cell viability, antimicrobial and anticancer studies. Hence the synthesized polymer composite material can act as an active role in orthopedic applications.
