REMOVAL OF LEAD FROM WASTEWATER USING AMBERLITE COATED ACTIVATED CARBON PROSOPIS JULIFLORA

Dr.D.KODIMUNTHIRI

The efficiency of activated carbon from the seeds of Prosopis juliflora as an adsorbent for removing Pb(II) ions from synthetic wastewater has been studied. The effect of Concentration, time, pH, temperature and matrix were obtained in this study for removing Pb(II) ions from the wastewater. With increase in concentration the percent removal decreases but the actual amount of the Lead adsorbed increases with equilibrium reaching at around 64 mg per gram of the activated carbon. Maximum metal sorption was found to occur at initial pH 6.0.Batch adsorption models, based on the assumption of the pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order mechanism were applied to examine the kinetics of the adsorption. The results showed that kinetic data were followed fitting the pseudo second-order model than the pseudo first-order equation. Thermodynamic parameters such as _H◦, _S◦ and _G◦ were calculated. The results were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich equation using linearized correlation coefficient at different temperature. The characteristic parameters for each isotherm have been determined. Models and the isotherm constant were evaluated depending on temperature. Langmuir equation is found to best represent the equilibrium data for Pb(II) ions–Prosopis Juliflora systems. Freundlich found to be unfit for the equilibrium data for Pb(II) ions–Prosopis Juliflora systems.
