PHOTOCATALYTIC ACTIVITY OF TiO2 ENHANCED BY DOPING OF COBALT IN PRESENCE OF NATURAL SUN LIGHT
In this study, TiO2, Co doped-TiO2were synthesized by sol-gel method. All the photocatalysts shows the anatase crystalline phase was confirmed by X-Ray Diffraction Analysis. The Co doped-TiO2 photocatalyst shows an absorption threshold extended into the visible region and also has smaller particle size compared to Co doped-TiO2 and TiO2. Co doped-TiO2 have higher activity in sunlight than the undoped TiO2. A Photocatalyst dosage of 100 mg/l is optimum for the degradation of dyes. Acidic pH is more suitable for the degradation of Reactive red 120 in heterogeneous TiO2 as catalyst compared to alkaline pH.Co doped-TiO2 highly stable photocatalyst when doing photocatalytic process, the reason is after fifth cycle the photocatalytic rate was 92 %.
