Dr.P.POORNIMA and DR.R.JAYAGANESH

Urinary tract infections are one of the diseases affecting people worldwide and especially Women. The samples from patients were collected and pathogens were isolated by serial dilution. The organisms were obtained in pure forms by streaking and identified as Klebsiella Pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis and Escherichia coli. Of the isolated organisms three were gram Positive cocci and three were gram negative rods. Phytochemical analysis of medicinal plants Senna alata, Andrographis panniculata, Lobeila inflata and Punica granatum used provide Useful information of the compounds present in them which in turn can be useful for converting the plant medicinal drug. On the basis of the results obtained the plants extracts contained various phytoconstituents like alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, tannins, saponins, carbohydrates etc. The pathogens were tested with commercial antibiotics like Vancomycin, ampicillin, erythromycin and penicillin. Then the medicinal plant extracts were Tested for antimicrobial activities. Thus the plant extracts possessed good antimicrobial activities on uropathogens which serve as traditional medicine to treat urinary tract infections.
