YIELD AND NUTRIENT CONTENT OF HYDROPONICS COWPEA SPROUTS AT VARIOUS STAGES OF GROWTH

Dr.R.KOKILA

In a hydroponics chamber with automatic sprayer watering of tap water, cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) (NB-4) sprouts were made every day for 15 days. Cowpea (NB-4) was soaked in tap water for 4 hours at a seed rate of 2.54 kg/m2 and 15 repetitions. The seeds were put out in the greenhouse trays after being strained. Each clone was given 9 days to grow within the greenhouse before being collected. The hydroponically sprouted cowpea (NB-4)'s fresh yield (kg/kg seed) grew as the growing time progressed and remained constant and greatest from day 6 (6.34) to day 9 (6.63). The DM content (%) declined and stayed consistent and lowest from day 8 (6.91) to day 9 (6.49) growing period, along with the growth of the hydroponics cowpea sprouts. The hydroponics cowpea fodder's CP (%) was lowest on day 1 (22.30), then rose and was about the same during the seventh (30.10) to ninth (31.23) day sprouting period. The EE content rose and stayed around the same from day 5 (2.31%) to day 8 (2.47%) of sprouting, but it peaked on day 9 (3.22) of growth. The CF (%) and NFE (%) of the hydroponically grown cowpea sprouts showed an ascending and descending pattern throughout their growth period, reaching their maximum and lowest values on day 9 (21.59 and 38.59, respectively). The TA and AIA content of had been rising in recent years.
